Paimpol

A view of the harbour in Paimpol

Paimpol is an old fishing harbour located at the north end of the bay of Saint-Brieuc, now mainly used as a sailing centre. The town has a pleasant atmosphere and has an authentic charm missing from many other holiday resorts. Next to the harbour on the west side is a warren of small narrow cobbled streets with many shops to browse round. There is also weekly market held each Tuesday in the cobbled streets of the town centre.

In the heyday of the fishing trade over a hundred boats sailed from Paimpol, however, the last boats sailed in 1935. Today Paimpol has turned to inshore fishing & oyster cultivation in the nearby Trieux estuary.

There is a wide choice of seafood restaurants scattered around the harbour. These range from simple restaurants serving moules-frites to more luxurious hotel restaurants serving finer delicacies.
