Port Blanc

The closest beaches to the house are at Port Blanc. There are a number of bays here with golden sandy beaches.

Port Blanc is just a short 12 minute drive from the house on quiet minor roads. On the way to Port Blanc you will pass through Penevan, itself a delightful stopping off point.

Port Blanc is a scenically beautiful fishing village resort. The beaches here are quieter in the summer months than at many other resorts in the area. Moreover, you can park you car on the sea front and walk across the road straight onto the beach.

The Nautical Centre of Port Blanc is a certified sailing school where a number of sailing dinghies and boats are available, as well as sea-kayaks and windsurf boards.

Bugueles, Gouermel and Le Goffre

Port Blanc is just one port on the Cote d'Ajoncs with quiet sandy bays. It is worth exploring further along the coast to discover the other sandy bays on offer, such as Bugueles, Gouermel and Le Gouffre. Off the coast of Bugueles you will see an archipelago of rocky islands, which are privately owned.

On the way to Le Gouffre you can stop off at Gouermel. This has a large bay with shallow water, white sands, and when it gets too hot you can retreat to the shade of the pine trees. It is a lovely place to relax in a quiet and natural setting.

Le_Gouffre

At Le Gouffre is a cleft in the rocks where the sea rushes in. Here, islands have been joined to the mainland by spits, which in turn have enclosed lagoons. One of the most visited sites in the area is the house wedged between two enormous granite rocks.

Scenically, this area is very attractive and for nature lovers it is a protected site because of its wildlife and flora. "La Maison du Littoral" is open to visitors in the summer and provides information in the form of an exhibition on the natural environment. There are good informative displays about how the rocks were formed, as well as information about the regional fauna and flora.

Plougresacant

Plougrescant offers beaches, creeks, rocks and hiking trails, all making for a glorious and exceptional coastline.

Plougrescant is also home to La Chapelle St Gonery with its crooked spire and paintings dating back to the fifteenth century. The chapel is, as its name suggests, dedicated to Saint Gonéry, who was known for his gift for healing people. To view the inside of the chapel you must take one of the guided tours.

The interior is decorated with many splendid fifteenth century frescos, and the tomb of Saint Gonéry. According to the legend, Saint Gonéry crossed the English Channel from Ireland in a stone trough, using a wisp of straw to row... He is celebrated at Plougrescant on the fourth Sunday of July.

La Roche Jaune

La Roche Jaune

Further to the east is the town of La Roche Jaune which boasts numerous oyster beds.

Following the road signs further round to La Belvedere will provide panoramic views of the mouth of the Jaudy estuary. The river Jaudy can also be seen as you enter Langoat just as it leaves La Roche Derrien.
